Jorge Chapa
Director
Jorge Chapa is the first permanent Director of the Center on Democracy in a Multiracial Society at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is also a Professor of Sociology and Latina/Latino Studies. Chapa's research has focused on alternatives to increase the successful participation of minorities in higher education and other public institutions. He is also currently doing research on immigration policy issues and voting rights.
Jennifer Roether
Program Coordinator/Business Manager
Jenny Roether holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Advertising, and has been working at the University on and off since 1996. She has acquired a variety of knowledge about University business policies and procedures which will ensure that the Center continues to run smoothly.
Margaret Browne Huntt
Research Specialist
Margaret Browne Huntt's research interests include issues relating to educational inequality and race and ethnicity with a focus on social stratification and mobility; equality of opportunity; and social change.
Ruth Mathew
Intern
Ruth Mathew is a graduate student at the School for International Training (SIT) Graduate Institute in Brattleboro, VT. Her degree focus is Intercultural Service, Leadership, & Management with a concentration in Nonprofit Management & Sustainable Development. At CDMS, she is the intern fulfilling duties that pertain to the upcoming Diversity & Democracy Conference and Grant writing.
Uriel Montoya
Graduate Student Liaison
Uriel Montoya is a graduate student in the department of Educational Policy Studies (EPS) under the division of History of Education. His research interest includes using Critical Race Theory (CRT) in education to document the inequalitiest that hinder the educational advancement of Latino immigrant students.
